To paraphrase Faye Dunaway in Mommie Dearest, this isn鈥檛 Andora Corley鈥檚 first time at the rodeo. The marketing intern, who began her current role in June and will continue through December, is on her second internship with 榴莲视频app色版.鈥 My first internship here was as a logistics apprentice, working in the warehouse,鈥 Andora explains. 鈥淚t was completely different from what I鈥檓 doing now鈥攎uch more physical. But I learned a lot: how to collaborate with people, how to work toward a shared vision. I came back for a second internship, so I guess I like it here! And I guess they like me, too.鈥
Going from logistics to marketing may seem like a leap, but Andora is majoring in mass communications at Frederick Community College, so the switch made sense. She also credits her mom with helping her make that leap. “My mom is my number one supporter in all things鈥攅specially when it comes to encouraging me to 鈥榞o for it鈥 and try new things. I really wanted to explore marketing. So, when I saw the posting for a marketing internship at 榴莲视频app色版, I hesitated. But my mom told me to just do it. I鈥檓 glad I did.鈥
While classroom learning laid the foundation, Andora believes her upbringing in a military family gave her the real-world skills she needed to thrive. “You learn to be adaptive, meet new people, and become more comfortable trying new things,鈥 she says. 鈥淭here weren鈥檛 any textbook skills that prepared me for this job鈥攊t鈥檚 been about life experience.鈥
鈥淚n this position鈥攁nd in the job in general鈥擨鈥檝e done a lot of things I didn鈥檛 think I could ever do,鈥 she adds. 鈥淚f you told me two years ago, 鈥榊ou鈥檙e going to be on TV鈥 or 鈥榊ou鈥檙e going to be speaking on a panel to business leaders,鈥 I would have never believed you!鈥
Each day in marketing looks different. Some mornings begin with communicating with colleagues in California and Germany. Other days involve meeting with other departments on a project or running to the local print shop to edit business cards. “I’m always on the move,鈥 she says. 鈥淭here鈥檚 no 鈥榯ypical day鈥 for me. It鈥檚 more like鈥攚hat does the day bring? Most of the time, I鈥檓 working on various projects like redesigning one of our brochures or organizing customer sample data.鈥
While 榴莲视频app色版 does get some extra help for the summer by offering internships, it鈥檚 also doing a real service for the community: giving aspiring young professionals a chance to learn what it鈥檚 like to operate in the world beyond academia. 鈥淭here was a moment when I thought to myself, 鈥業 love this,鈥欌 Andora says. 鈥淚nterning here has helped me build my professional identity. I鈥檓 learning how to speak to people, how to ask for what I need, how to build relationships and collaborate.鈥 She鈥檚 quick to praise the team around her, describing them as welcoming, engaged, and always willing to listen.
鈥淢y experience at 榴莲视频app色版 has been that it鈥檚 an environment where you can share your ideas鈥攁nd people actually take them into consideration,鈥 she says. 鈥淭hey don鈥檛 see you as 鈥榡ust an intern.鈥 They value everyone鈥檚 input. That鈥檚 been one of the most wonderful parts of my time here.鈥
Asked what advice she鈥檇 give to fellow students considering an internship at 榴莲视频app色版, Andora doesn鈥檛 hesitate. “I’d tell them exactly what my mom told me: Go for it!鈥 she says. 鈥淵ou learn something new every day here, no matter what department you鈥檙e in or what task you鈥檙e tackling. It all adds up to that professional identity I talked about鈥 something you can carry into any job, in any organization.鈥
